Prepare the stand and keep fuel separate from the recipe

For the worked plan below, assume you already have a usable Brewing Stand, three Water Bottles, one Nether Wart, one Magma Cream, one Redstone Dust and at least one Blaze Powder, with an empty or unknown stand fuel gauge. Put Blaze Powder in the fuel slot; put the bottles in the three lower slots. The one ingredient slot above them is for the current brewing stage. Do not put the Magma Cream in the fuel slot or count a finished stand as a source of free fuel.

A stand may already contain unused fuel, so inspect its gauge before converting another rod. If you need to craft the stand, Mojang's historical recipe uses one Blaze Rod and three Cobblestone; keep that rod separate from the powder needed for fuel. Check the current recipe menu and availability in your installed edition rather than assuming every stone variant or found workstation is permitted on your server.

  1. Inspect the stand's fuel gauge and load Blaze Powder into the separate fuel slot if needed.
  2. Fill three glass bottles with water and place the three Water Bottles in the lower slots.
  3. Put one Nether Wart in the ingredient slot and wait for the three lower items to become Awkward Potions.
  4. Replace the top ingredient with one Magma Cream and wait for the three Fire Resistance potions.
  5. Optional: place one Redstone Dust in the ingredient slot to extend all three eligible potions, then verify the resulting tooltip before taking them.
  6. Keep finished drinkable potions separate from unprocessed bottles and record the number and duration you actually see.

A three-bottle input and fuel ledger

The cited Wiki describes one ingredient applying to each compatible lower-slot bottle during an operation. Three bottles therefore use one Nether Wart and one Magma Cream for the two base stages, not three of each. With optional Redstone, the same three bottles use one more ingredient and a third fuel operation. This arithmetic describes a planned batch; it is not an observed production run.

A newly inserted Blaze Powder provides up to 20 operations under the cited stand description. Three sequential operations leave a theoretical 17 of those operations available, assuming no other brewing and a newly empty stand. Each operation takes a nominal 20 seconds at normal game ticks, so three stages total 60 seconds of active processing, excluding loading and collection; lag or different tick conditions change elapsed time.

Count a crafted cream without double-spending powder

The community reference lists one Blaze Rod yielding two Blaze Powder, and one Blaze Powder plus one Slimeball yielding one Magma Cream. Suppose the stand already exists, its fuel gauge is empty, you have one rod and one Slimeball, and you have no powder or cream. One rod yields two powder: allocate one to the fuel slot and one with the Slimeball to craft the cream. Keep the Nether Wart, three filled bottles and optional Redstone in their own rows; this is not a complete no-resources survival route.

If you instead need to craft the stand from rods as well, one rod must remain intact for the stand under the historical recipe. The illustrative plan then needs a second rod to produce the two powder, plus the three Cobblestone, Slimeball and other potion inputs. If you already found cream or residual fuel, recalculate from your own stock; do not spend a rod twice.

What the effect does — and does not — protect

The community potion page lists three minutes for the regular drinkable potion and eight minutes for the extended drinkable version. Check the actual item name and timer in your build; do not assume splash or lingering durations are interchangeable with a drinkable potion. Drink before entering a hazard and leave yourself time to exit before the effect expires.

The cited effect reference describes protection from fire and lava damage while the effect is active, but not ordinary melee damage or the explosion of a ghast fireball. It is not a general invulnerability potion. Keep a safe route back and avoid treating a planned timer as proof that your character has the effect. Custom rules or data packs can alter damage behavior.

Before you play

  • Identify the lower bottle slots, ingredient slot and separate Blaze Powder fuel slot.
  • Brew Nether Wart before Magma Cream for this recipe.
  • Treat optional Redstone as a separate operation and ingredient.
  • Count a rod reserved for a new stand separately from powder for fuel or cream.
  • Verify the potion tooltip and escape route; do not assume fire resistance blocks all damage.

Frequently asked questions

Does each of three bottles consume a separate Magma Cream?

The cited manual brewing description uses one ingredient per operation for up to three compatible bottles; check the output in your own stand.

Does Redstone Dust go into a Water Bottle first?

No for this route. First make Awkward Potions, then Fire Resistance, and only then use Redstone Dust to extend the drinkable potion.

Do I need to consume an entire Blaze Powder for each step?

No. The cited reference gives up to 20 operations per powder loaded as stand fuel. Current remaining fuel and other prior operations affect your actual gauge.

Can I ignore ghasts once I have Fire Resistance?

No. A ghast fireball's explosion can still hurt you; fire resistance is not general invulnerability. Carry a safe exit plan.
