Frontier gives a progression rule for three item classes. Do not assume every unavailable object has the same cause: this FAQ addresses genomes, buildings and technologies, while DLC entitlement and scenario-specific rules need their own checks.

A low-risk unlock audit
Check the source of the unlock before starting the same island again. Frontier says unlocked content is retained for the rest of the game, so resetting Sandbox is not the first response to a missing item.
- Write down the exact item name and classify it as a genome, building, technology, or possible DLC content.
- For a genome/building/technology, review campaign contracts, missions and research for the corresponding unlock; complete the relevant progression step if it is still locked there.
- Return to Sandbox and check the item again. Frontier says unlocked content becomes available on all islands, including Sandbox.
- If you previously unlocked it, verify the same game profile and that the item is not a DLC-only or scenario-restricted asset; inspect the current platform store/installed-content listing for owned add-ons.
- Do not restart a campaign or delete a save as a first-line fix. If the documented unlock path is complete and the item remains unavailable, collect platform, game build, mode and item name for Frontier Support.

Platform and edition boundary
Frontier's support article was updated in 2026, but it explains unlock progression rather than every edition or platform entitlement. Its separate platform FAQ notes differences between previous- and current-generation consoles; check the current support page for a platform-specific limit before assuming that an item is missing because of a bug.
