Know what the toggle controls
Subset Games describes Advanced Edition as adding five mech squads, nearly forty weapons, more enemies and bosses, mission objectives and pilot abilities. Its FAQ says the additional content can be turned off at difficulty selection before starting a game. This is a content-scope choice—not a promise to restore the exact pre-update game balance.
| Run goal | Setup choice | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Try the expanded content | Keep additional content enabled | You may encounter new squads, weapons, enemies, bosses, objectives and pilot skills |
| Practice a narrower rules/content set | Turn off all additional content at difficulty selection | Some minor balance changes still apply |
| Compare a guide or screenshot | Record content setting and platform | An older guide may not match the selected ruleset |

Set the run deliberately
Choose the content scope before committing to a new run. The developer FAQ places the toggle on the difficulty-selection flow, so do not assume it can be changed mid-run. If you are testing your own strategy, keep other variables—such as squad selection and difficulty—as stable as possible.
- At the new-run/difficulty screen, locate the additional-content setting.
- Choose enabled for the Advanced Edition additions or disabled for the narrower content set.
- Read the chosen difficulty and squad again before confirming.
- Record the platform and content setting if you are consulting a guide or documenting a result.
- If the setting is missing, confirm you have the intended edition/build and check Subset's current FAQ before troubleshooting files.

Worked comparison
Two players comparing a squad run should first match platform and the additional-content setting. If one used Advanced Edition content and one disabled it, differences in available squad, enemy or objective pool may explain why the runs diverge; that is a scope difference, not evidence that one player's route is universally better.
| Comparison field | Player A example | Player B example |
|---|---|---|
| Content toggle | Enabled | Disabled |
| What differs | Advanced Edition additions may appear | Additional content is excluded; some balance changes remain |
| Safe conclusion | Different content scope | Do not compare outcomes as a controlled same-ruleset test |

Platform and access notes
Subset's FAQ describes Advanced Edition availability on PC, Switch and mobile; it also says the mobile edition requires a Netflix subscription. Mobile access and storefront availability should be checked for your region. A platform list in an older FAQ is not a live store check. The linked Steam discussions are UGC; posts may reflect different squads or settings.

- I matched platform and content scope before comparing a route.
Frequently asked questions
Can I disable Advanced Edition after a run starts?
The FAQ places the setting at difficulty selection before starting a game. It does not say this can be changed mid-run.
Does turning off extra content roll back the update?
No. Subset says some minor balance changes from the update also apply to original-game content.
Is the mobile edition a separate content set?
Subset says the mobile version has the same content, including Advanced Edition; its FAQ says mobile access is through a Netflix subscription.
