Sort saved state into the categories the developer named
The compatibility notice distinguishes checkpoint state from persistent progression. That matters because a save slot can still appear in a menu while its mid-mission checkpoint is no longer loadable. The notes say the campaign can continue from the start of the reached mission, giving Mission 07 as an example; persistent fleet and War Games progression are described as compatible.
| State category | Update 1.3 note | Practical interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-mission checkpoint/autosave from 1.22 or earlier | Not compatible with 1.3 | The note says restart that mission to continue campaign progress |
| Campaign mission reached | Progression remains compatible | Continue from the start of the reached mission, not the old checkpoint |
| Persistent fleet data | Compatible | The notice does not say this is invalidated |
| War Games progression | Compatible | Keep it separate from Campaign checkpoints |
| Settings/preferences | Compatible | The notice says these remain compatible |

Safe update/recovery sequence
Use the patch notice as a decision table, not as a reason to delete older saves. Preserve an old checkpoint until you have confirmed the updated game loads the campaign from the expected mission boundary.
- Record the installed game version and the last campaign mission you reached.
- Identify whether the file you are trying to load is a mid-mission checkpoint from 1.22 or earlier.
- If so, expect that checkpoint not to load under 1.3; use the campaign progression route to restart the mission from its beginning.
- Check persistent fleet, War Games progress and settings separately; the 1.3 notice says these categories remain compatible.
- Do not delete or overwrite old files based only on a forum post. Follow the platform's backup/cloud process if you need to preserve a copy.

Worked example: reached Mission 07
If the old playthrough reached Mission 07 but its 1.22 mid-mission checkpoint will not load after installing 1.3, the developer's example supports continuing from the start of Mission 07. It does not support claiming that all tactical progress inside the checkpoint is preserved. Mark the mission checkpoint as affected while treating campaign milestone progress as a separate category.

Patch and mode limits
This is a historical, exact-build compatibility statement, not a promise about every future update. Update 1.3 also changed combat, research, resourcing and campaign mission flow, so advice captured before that update may not transfer cleanly. The linked player forum is UGC; ask for the original and current build numbers before applying a report.

Before you play
- I identified the game version and save category.
- I separated mid-mission checkpoint state from campaign/fleet progression.
- I preserved the old file before trying a recovery step.
- I followed the named mission-start route only for an affected checkpoint.
Frequently asked questions
Did Update 1.3 erase my campaign progress?
The notes say campaign progression remains compatible; they distinguish it from incompatible mid-mission checkpoints from 1.22 and earlier.
Can I continue from the exact old checkpoint?
The update notice says those checkpoints are not compatible and the mission must be restarted. It does not promise in-mission tactical state survives.
Do these rules apply to current saves?
Only the cited 1.3 boundary is established here. Check the patch notes matching your installed build for later save changes.
