Separate the two cross-platform features
Ubisoft's October 2026 Help article says crossplay is on by default and can be disabled in Game Menu > Options > Online; Xbox settings can also control it. Cross-progression is separately tied to the Ubisoft account and requires owning the game on each platform. An invite issue does not mean you should unlink accounts.
| Question | Feature | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Can platforms join matches together? | Crossplay | Verify in-game and, on Xbox, console crossplay settings |
| Will eligible progress/content follow me? | Cross-progression | Verify the linked Ubisoft account and Ubisoft's current shared-content list |
| Can I play on a platform where I do not own the game? | Not granted by cross-progression | Ubisoft says ownership is still required per platform |
| Will purchased Steel necessarily follow? | No; Ubisoft says purchased Steel is platform/account-bound | Check the exact purchase platform/account before changing anything |

Preflight the irreversible consolidation prompt
Ubisoft's FAQ says to validate the accounts listed by the prompt and warns the initial combination cannot be undone. Do not click through just to discover which profile is active.
- Sign in to Ubisoft's account page privately and list which PlayStation, Xbox, Steam or Epic identity is linked to the intended Ubisoft account.
- Check that the game is owned on every platform you plan to use; cross-progression does not grant cross-ownership.
- Review Ubisoft Help's current cross-platform content list. Treat purchased Steel separately because Ubisoft says it cannot be shared across platforms/accounts.
- When the in-game prompt lists linked accounts, compare every entry to your private list before confirming. If anything is unfamiliar or missing, back out and resolve the link first.
- Never share Ubisoft credentials, account email or purchase identifiers in public community discussions. Contact Ubisoft Support if ownership/link state is unclear.

If the invite fails but progression is fine
Leave account linking untouched. Recheck crossplay on both players' platforms, then test an invitation through Ubisoft Connect/in-game social controls. Progression sync and matchmaking participation are separate systems.

Before you play
- Crossplay question separated from progression question.
- Every platform account and intended Ubisoft account checked privately.
- Game ownership confirmed on each platform.
- Ubisoft's current content-sharing list reviewed; purchased Steel treated as an exception.
- Unknown linked accounts trigger stop/back-out before irreversible confirmation.
Frequently asked questions
Is For Honor crossplay enabled by default?
Ubisoft Help, updated October 14, 2026, says yes. It documents Game Menu > Options > Online to turn it off; Xbox console settings may also apply.
Does cross-progression mean I own For Honor on every platform?
No. Ubisoft's FAQ says cross-ownership is not implemented; you need to own the game on each platform you want to use.
Is all content shared?
No. Ubisoft says not all content carries over and specifically identifies purchased Steel as linked to its platform/account. Check the current support list for each item.
Can this guide inspect my linked Ubisoft accounts?
No. The checklist is local and account-blind; only Ubisoft's account portal/support can confirm your actual links.
