Read the queue from top to bottom
Paradox's Update 1.4 trade diary describes Trade Orders as a priority queue. Higher entries receive Trade Capacity before lower entries, and unused capacity trickles down to later orders and then regular automation. The order list is therefore a prioritization control, not a promise that every order gets its cap.
- Open the market's Trade panel and note the current total Trade Capacity shown by the game.
- Write down each flat-cap order in its visible top-to-bottom priority order; keep percentage orders separate because this checker does not convert them.
- Use the planner to calculate an upper-bound sequential allocation.
- Return to the market and confirm whether each order is active and has eligible goods/targets. Dormant orders may pass capacity to later entries.

Worked example: 60 TC with three flat caps
Suppose the market shows 60 TC and the first three active orders have flat caps of 25, 30 and 20 TC. Arithmetic allocates 25 to the first, 30 to the second and the remaining 5 to the third. The final order's 15 TC of cap is unserved; this is not capacity lost from the market, but a cap the market cannot fill after higher priorities.
| Priority | Flat cap | Upper-bound allocation | Cap left unserved |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 25 TC | 25 TC | 0 TC |
| 2 | 30 TC | 30 TC | 0 TC |
| 3 | 20 TC | 5 TC | 15 TC |
| Regular automation | — | 0 TC | — |

What this planner deliberately does not decide
The official diary also documents percentage caps and dynamic order presets, but they depend on market totals and eligibility the arithmetic widget cannot observe. It does not determine profitability, supply, route cost, shortages, tariffs, target-market access, or whether an order is dormant. In particular, an order cap is a maximum; it is not a guaranteed trade volume.
- Use flat values copied from one market and one current build only.
- If using a percentage cap or Any Export/Pop Need/Construction Need preset, verify the actual allocation in the game rather than converting it with assumptions.
- After reordering or editing an order, reopen the market and inspect the trade allocation and route list before relying on the automation remainder.

Discuss a capacity discrepancy with useful context
If the displayed allocation differs from the planner, first compare whether an order is active, dormant, or ineligible: the planner assumes all listed orders are active and eligible. The Steam discussion link is a player forum, not a verified-answer feed.

Before you play
- Use a single market's current total TC.
- Enter only flat caps, in top-to-bottom order.
- Check order activity and eligibility in-game.
- Treat the result as arithmetic, not a trade-profit forecast.
Frequently asked questions
Does a flat cap reserve TC even if an order cannot use it?
Paradox says unused capacity passes to lower orders and regular automation. Confirm the order is dormant or otherwise not using capacity in your own market; this planner assumes every row is active and eligible.
Can I enter a percentage order here?
No. This calculator accepts flat TC caps only; the official 1.4 diary also describes percentage caps, which must be checked against the market's live total in-game.
Does the remaining automation figure mean the market will trade that much?
No. It is only arithmetic left after the entered caps. Goods, routes, tariffs, market access, eligibility and current availability can change what automation actually does.
