Browser-local · manual build comparison

Compare the replay or save build

Copy labels from your notes or game screen. Nothing here reads a file, launch client or profile; an equal build label is not a load guarantee.

More information needed

Enter both build numbers shown in your own game or file notes. This checker cannot read a replay or identify a build for you.

First identify what stopped opening

World's Edge explicitly names two affected file types: saved games and observable matches created on previous builds. An observable match is a replay, not a live ranked rating or a multiplayer save. Keep those cases separate when describing the symptom; the published note does not say that every settings profile, screenshot, or campaign file has the same limitation.

  1. Write down whether you are opening a saved game or an observable match/replay.
  2. Find the build shown in Settings on the current client; the official bug-reporting guide places the build number at the top-right of Settings.
  3. Use your file notes, capture date, or an earlier bug report to record its originating build. Do not guess if it is unknown.
  4. Compare the two labels with the local checker below.
  5. If the file predates 17.0.12260, treat the publisher's incompatibility statement as the relevant limit; preserve the file as an archive, but do not expect the new client to load it.
  6. If the labels match or the file type differs, record the exact error and consult current support/known-issue notes rather than applying the previous-build conclusion.

Use the comparison narrowly

This is not a universal downgrade or recovery guide. The release note does not document a supported way to convert an old replay/save, nor does it claim that reinstalling repairs a previous-build file. Avoid overwriting the only copy while investigating an unrelated error. Equal text labels from two manually entered fields are only a clue; this tool never inspects file metadata.

Worked example: an old observable match

Illustrative version comparison, not a tested replay: your notes say an observable match was recorded before the 17.0.12260 update, while Settings now shows 17.0.12260. The official note directly covers this case, so repeated file verification is unlikely to change that documented compatibility boundary. Keep the original file separately for reference, and use a match recorded on the current build if you need an observable replay. The source does not promise a way to replay the older match.

If you still need help

For a different error, use one report per issue. The official forum guide asks for the game version, platform, mode/map, what you expected, what actually happened, triggering events and reproduction steps. Search the current bug forum first. A forum thread from another player is a lead to compare, not proof it shares your cause.

Before you play

  • File type recorded: saved game or observable match.
  • Current client build copied from the game rather than guessed.
  • File-origin build recorded or marked unknown.
  • 17.0.12260 warning applied only to previous-build files.
  • No claim that matching build labels guarantee a successful load.

Frequently asked questions

Can Update 17.0.12260 replay an observable match from an older build?

World's Edge says observable matches made on previous builds cannot be replayed after updating to 17.0.12260.

Does the build checker inspect my replay?

No. It compares only the two text labels you type and does not read local files or connect to Age of Empires IV.

If both build labels match, is my save guaranteed to load?

No. A match only means the specific previous-build warning does not explain your entered case.
