Do not treat every clearing as free expansion

Dangerous Glades reveal resources and can contain a time-sensitive event. The community Wiki describes threat consequences, worker slots, alternative solutions and working effects on the event panel. Its beginner advice about opening the first Dangerous Glade after an early Storm is a suggested pacing strategy, not a guarantee that every map is safe in Year 2.

Before cutting the final boundary tree, check food, fuel, free workers and whether a trader or existing production can supply likely event goods. The woodcutter setting 'Avoid Glades' can prevent an accidental opening while you finish preparations; verify your current camp mode.

  1. Before opening: identify which camp is near the boundary and set its glade-opening behavior deliberately.
  2. After opening: pause, select the event and read the threat effect and countdown, not just the reward icon.
  3. Compare each solution's goods, worker slots, work duration and working effect; choose the option your current settlement can supply.
  4. Check that goods can travel from storage and that workers can reach the event. Allow time for delivery before the work timer can finish.
  5. Start Investigate only with a feasible route; monitor delivered goods, worker presence and both timers until completion.

Compute slack rather than trusting the work timer alone

The event work timer is not the whole job. The tutorial reference shows work begins after required goods arrive and a worker is present. A long path or unavailable item can consume the safe window before the visible work phase starts.

Write the conservative inequality: threat time must exceed estimated delivery and travel time plus work time plus a margin. If the route lacks the required resource altogether, the correct next task is a sourcing decision, not staffing more workers.

Worked example: one-minute slack is fragile

Hypothetical arithmetic, not an event observed by GamerWin: a threat fires in 7 minutes, a solution's work takes 4 minutes, and you estimate 2 minutes for goods and workers to arrive. Seven minus four minus two leaves 1 minute of slack. A long warehouse route or a missing good can erase it. Pausing lets you compare a second option or shorten the delivery path before pressing Investigate.

Do not transplant 7 or 4 minutes to your own event. Read both timers in your installed game, and distinguish a consequence that triggers at zero from a working effect that starts when the event is investigated.

What to record if the event fails

Save the event name, chosen option, goods required and actually delivered, workers assigned, threat time at start, work time, and the first negative effect. This identifies whether the bottleneck was materials, travel, labor or an underestimated working effect.

If the threat does trigger, do not assume the run is automatically lost. Read the specific consequence, stabilize the settlement, then decide whether finishing this event is still the best next action.

Before you play

  • Glade-opening camp mode chosen deliberately.
  • Threat, both options and working effects read before Investigate.
  • Goods delivery plus travel included in timing.
  • Worker presence and event progress monitored after starting.

Frequently asked questions

Is Year 2 always the right time for a Dangerous Glade?

No. The cited beginner page suggests that timing as a strategy; current resources, difficulty and event risks decide whether your settlement can handle it.

Why has the work timer not started?

The cited tutorial explains that required goods must arrive and a worker must be present. Check delivery and staffing before treating it as a bug.
